Meet AI on a Mac: first launch and the other side of the call

Two things work differently on a Mac than on Windows: opening the app for the first time and letting it hear the person you are talking to. Both are one-time setups that take about five minutes.

First launch

The Mac build is signed without an Apple Developer certificate, so a double click is refused with a warning such as “Meet AI” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software or “…because the developer cannot be verified”. That is the standard warning for apps outside the App Store, not an error in the app. You get past it once — after that Meet AI opens like anything else.

  1. Install as usual

    Open the downloaded dmg, drag Meet AI into the Applications folder and launch it from there, not from the disk image. Auto-update on a Mac does not work without an Apple signature — download new versions from the site.

  2. macOS 13 and 14 (Ventura, Sonoma): right-click → “Open”

    In Finder open Applications, right-click Meet AI (or click while holding Control) and choose “Open”. In the warning that appears click “Open” again.

    If you already tried a double click and saw the warning — dismiss it (“OK” or “Cancel”, not “Move to Trash”) and use the right-click instead.

  3. macOS 15 and newer (Sequoia, Tahoe): through System Settings

    On recent systems the right-click no longer helps. Try to open the app and get refused, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the bottom: you will see “Meet AI” was blocked… and an “Open Anyway” button. Click it, confirm with your password or Touch ID — and the app starts.

  4. Allow the microphone

    On first start macOS asks for microphone access — click “OK” (“Allow” on newer macOS), without it the app is deaf. If you declined by accident, the Meet AI settings show an «Відкрити Системні параметри» (Open System Settings) button that takes you straight to the right screen — the app’s own interface is in Ukrainian.

    The app may also ask for Screen Recording — BlackHole does not need it, you can decline. Just ignore the red «macOS не дає запису екрана…» line in the settings afterwards.

  5. From here it is the same as everywhere

    Paste your licence key, fill in your profile and stack, pick a mode. The prompt hotkeys on a Mac are ⌘⌥1, ⌘⌥2 and ⌘⌥3.

If you are comfortable with Terminal, one command does the same thing — it removes the quarantine flag the browser puts on downloaded apps.

The other side of the call: BlackHole

On Windows the app captures system audio by itself. On a Mac that does not work: the system hands audio to apps only through the screen-recording dialog (macOS 15 and newer), which pops up before every session. The reliable way is the free virtual cable BlackHole: it appears in the system as one more audio output, and Meet AI listens to it like a microphone. Set it up once, everything after that is automatic.

  1. Install BlackHole

    Open the downloaded pkg and go through the installer — it asks for an administrator password. A restart is usually not needed; if BlackHole is missing from the list in the next step, restart the Mac.

  2. Create a Multi-Output Device

    It is what lets you keep hearing the call yourself: sound goes to your speakers or headphones and to BlackHole at the same time.

    Open Audio MIDI Setup (Applications → Utilities, or via Spotlight). Click “+” in the bottom-left corner → “Create Multi-Output Device”. In the list on the right tick your speakers or headphones first (for example “MacBook Air Speakers” or AirPods), then “BlackHole 2ch”. Do not add the microphone here.

  3. Route the call into that device

    System Settings → Sound → Output → choose the Multi-Output Device you just created. Now everything that plays on the Mac is heard by you and by Meet AI.

    If you would rather leave the system output alone — in Zoom, Telegram or Google Meet pick this device as the speaker in the call’s own audio settings.

  4. Start Meet AI

    Nothing to configure: press Start — the app finds BlackHole among the inputs on its own and starts listening to the other side. An easy check — play any video and watch whether its words appear in the panel.

    To set it by hand (the app’s interface is in Ukrainian): Налаштування → «Джерело звуку» (audio source) → «Голос співрозмовника» (the other side’s voice) → «Окремий вхід — лінійний, USB, ресивер» (separate input) → «Пристрій входу» (input device) → BlackHole 2ch.

While the output is set to a Multi-Output Device the keyboard volume keys do not work — that is how macOS is built. Adjust the volume inside Zoom or Meet, or switch the output back to the speakers after the call.

If something is off

Almost everything comes down to where exactly the call is playing.

  • BlackHole is not in the device list — restart the Mac. To check it is installed: System Settings → Sound → Output should list “BlackHole 2ch”.
  • The other side is missing from the prompts — make sure the call plays into the Multi-Output Device and not straight into your headphones: a Bluetooth headset often grabs the output for itself when it connects.
  • Your own voice shows up twice — the microphone ended up inside the Multi-Output or an Aggregate Device. Remove it from there: the app takes your voice from the microphone separately.
  • The ⌘⌥1–3 keys do nothing — another app grabbed them. Change the shortcut in the Meet AI settings.
  • To remove BlackHole completely: delete the folder /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/BlackHole2ch.driver and restart the Mac.
